Hello and which 2 should I buy?

    Hi all,

Great forum here. I am primarily a sailor/kayaker and would like to do some kayak camping. I think I am already sold on a blackbird with a big mamajamba tarp.

My 17 year old son is my partner on these trips and I'm trying to decide if I should get 2 blackbirds or the JRB Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock in addition to the blackbird, which would give me choices when my son finally ditches his dad .

Thanks for the great forum and I would appreciate any comments.

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm a big fan of variety myself... I'd say get the WBBB and the JRB bridge. Variety is the spice!

I agree, get one of each.

Both are highly regarded here and would sell in a snap if you decide you want to have 2 of the same down the road.

    Welcome to HF!!

Both! As you are in NY, unless you are a pad user, you will need a really warm under quilt, and a JRB MW4 will work great with both hammocks!

One of each is a mistake. If you both like the Blackbird, someone will be unhappy. If you both like the Bear Mountain, someone will be unhappy. The only solution is to...

    get two of each.

Get two Blackbirds and save on shipping. Bridges are love/hate, and I don't love them. Seems most love their Blackbirds, never heard of anyone hating them. That's just my opinion.

gathered end and bridge hammocks have a distinctly different feel. That's not to say one is better than the other, just very different. My vote, if possible would be to find someone reasonably close who has a bridge and see if you like it. I used to try to go back and forth between my DIY bridge and my HH but in the end I chose the HH to stay with.

Edit: I do have a DIY bridge which I would be willing to let you use for a test run. I'm about three hours from Binghamton but could probably meet somewhere in the middle if you were interested.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.
