Backyard Hangers: what would you do?

Dug a nearly 4' hole this afternoon and sunk a 10' treated 6x6. The idea is to form a triangle with two spruce trees, allowing two hammocks to hang together.

I'm deciding whether to use a strap on it versus a single hook/eye bolt. Opinions one way or the other?

    Thanks!

p.s. ignore the canoe cover - that's a project for another day.

I don't have any trees in my backyard so last Fall I put 2 12ft 6x6's in for my hangs. So far I've just used straps but I'm considering getting one of those adjustable screw in tracks.

    either/or

personally, I'd use straps, just to keep it consistent with the woods

Once I figure out where the proper place for the eyelet, that’s what I would use. Nice to just clip in with a beaner when I want to hang. No need to setup and adjust straps.

You can use eye bolts and straps. Recommend getting eye bolts long enough to go all the way thru your post and use wide washers.

I have 5 pier pilings spaced around a Pecan tree and I have eye bolts thru 4 of the pier pilings. I still use straps most times.

I'd recommend using the straps for a while to find that sweet spot and then go for the I bolts or you could use something like this from Dutch.

I really like those adjustable tracks. Also gives you the option of using another set of studs to run a tarp ridge-line.

If you are planning to use different hammocks, straps for sure. I tried putting in fixed anchor points at home, because it seemed like the easiest thing to do. After my wall was riddled with holes and I still had not found the perfect hang, I installed posts and used straps. Problem solved.

+1 on what Trailslug said. At the beginning use straps. After several hangs see if you're always in exactly the same spot on the pole or not. I've got a similar setup in my yard and while I've considered adding an eye bolt I never seem to get around to doing it. Once you set the bolt you'll be locked into that spot, which may be fine, or may be limiting if you change hammocks or suspensions down the road. The hangers from Dutch look like they'd give you a good compromise: same general spot for consistency but enough adjustability to tweak. I'd say keep the option of adjustability in whatever you decide.

If you're going to use straps on the post, I would router the 4 corners of the post with a 5/8 or 3/4 roundover bit, to smooth out the edges. It makes a big difference.
