I've begun looking for a source for supplies for a TQ and UQ. While looking on the bay I ran across this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-WHITE-DOWN-C...item5639d97952
Would this be a cheap source of down, or is there a cheaper alternative?

as in so many situations- it depends- I note that they only class it as 550 fill power, so anything you make will be marginally heavier than if you used 800-900, for an equal thickness (i am defaulting to the guess that you are thinking about DIY tq/uq) and there will be more pokey bits-
consider also the toal weight of the down used/available, (and the shipping charges) then take your best shot!
good luck, KM
Best source for quality down... at reasonable prices and in small quantities is Ed Speer at Speer Hammocks.

Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
Read the full description it is 95% feathers & 5% down.
My knife is so sharp it cut the sixth finger off my right hand! On the plus side, Inigo Montoya no longer hunts me.
