    Hey Missouri Hangers

Hi my new neighbors. We are hangers from NC, here in lovely Missouri for 3 months. We are looking for a place to car camp, and hangers to camp with. Doesn't seem there is much posted in the way of hangs for this state, so let's hear some ideas please. NC hanger Hotlips, and her hubby KingsFord.

Welcome to Missouri. Most of the good hanging spots are all in the SE corner of the state. But you are correct, I haven’t seen much in the way of group hangs. There was one in January which was nice.

I’m on the far side of the state, in Kansas, but I’ll drive to any group hangs. Get to meet folks and gives me an excuse to get out!

I suggested Hazel Creek in a separate post last week. So far, no replies. We have had hangs at Hawn State Park, Bell Mountain, Meramec State Park. Gideon recently suggested a backpack a few miles out from Taum Sauk along the OT, but something came up and he cancelled. That's still a good idea, though...

I'd love to set something up although it's looking more like a summer hang I'm out of state until June 3rd but after that I'd be happy to set something up. The section of the OT from Taum Sauk State park and Mina Sauk Falls out about 5 or so miles is beautiful. The trail runs along creeks that flow year long and there are some nice primitive camp sites.

If you're new to MO, I can't say enough about Hawn State Park. Also, a short but wonderful day hike is Pickle Springs natural area. I promise it's one of the best day hikes in Missouri even though it is a bit short. Here's a link: https://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-n...pickle-springs

I'll check in while I'm out of town to see what folks come up with and welcome to Missouri!

Another vote for hawn state park. Did a quick overnighter last night on the whispering pines south loop. About 7 miles if you take the connector shortcut. Several cleared/designated backpack camping sites and plenty of water. Beautiful area.

Missouri hangers beware, Hotlips and Kingsford are well known out in the southeast. They are good folks, love to camp, and have been known to do some fine camp cooking. You might recognize their camp by a bright orange tarp made by another of our friends, Squidbilly. You will enjoy their company!

Ditto on what old4hats said. Hotlips and Kingsford come highly recommended when it comes to food and fellowship.
