No, waterproof fabric is bad for hammock fabric.
Condensation problems, sweat pools in hammock. You don’t have to have visible sweat to have sweat vapor (unseen) condense on waterproof material in hammock.

Maybe waterproof fabric will be ok for tarp—-
You’d still have to test to see if it worked.
I’ve forgotten the terminology, some “waterproof” fabrics are more waterproof than others. During heavy rains some fabrics will allow some water through. This is different from condensation.
To be on the safe side, without lots of research, maybe get tarp fabric from RipStopByTheRoll, or Dutch.

Randy at dream hammock, who first started using the crinkle taffeta tablecloths attempted a demo test using a pallet of pellets for his pellet stove and ran out at 500lbs. I’ve had the same one going for 5 or 6 years as the hammock the kids, dogs can do whatever in and it’s still going strong after countless rounds of flip the hammock and similar abuses.

Yes they are very sturdy, overkill for a camping hammock, but a really good option for home indoor use. It is roughly comparable to the off the shelf 1.9 nylon ripstop you might get at Joanne’s.
