    Talking hammock virgin

Hi! just a message to say hello and introduce to the hammock hangers.

here is a pic of my mosquito hammock brand jungle hammock up for the first time in my back yard.

veterans? what do you think, please be brutal.

Is this fly going to handle strong winds? have i got it correct? it does look dangerously sail like to me....

    otherwise im veryexcited about hammocking!!

Looks good to me. I'd probably pull everything as tight as I could, but that's just me.

The mosquitos will love it .

    daniel, welcome to the group.
i've not spent any time w/ a diamond tarp so others can give you better advice, but my thoughts would be that it looks long enough to cover the ends of the hammock.
the more wind involved, the lower (closer to the hammock) you would need to hang the tarp.
a lot of folks end up w/ a little larger tarp, either rectangle or hex shape, because of the extra coverage it gives.
with a bigger tarp i can leave plenty head room between me & the tarp & still still have a dry area around my hammock for cooking, etc. ...tim

Welcome aboard! Always glad to have another new hanger with us. It looks like you have your hammock and tarp setup right on. Just tighten the crap out of that tarp and you got it. Personally, I tie everything down as tight as I can reasonably get it so that the wind doesn't have its way with it later on.

especially if you're going to walk away from camp. never know what the weather's going to do while you're away.
any time we go on a day hike from camp, i suggest that people leave there stuff covered/ put away in a way as if they are expecting rain, even if the sun is shinning bright.
then if a storm rolls in while we're away, no problem.

Is the webbing wrapped around the tree a couple of times on both ends? Looks like its just looped around the back of the tree on one end. I personally would like more stability than that. Also, I don't see how the length adjustments are made with your webbing for trees of differing lengths. It looks like a ring buckle modification to the way you attach to the trees would make your life a lot easier.

Welcome, and I'm a new hanger, too, so take that into consideration with my comments.

Looks good except the far tree looks like you did not wrap the webbing around the tree for the hammock. I am new my self with two Claytor (mosquito hammock) Expeditions and 1 Speer. On all three I have installed the ring buckles. Also on the Claytors I have replaced the stock green nylon webbing with webbing from Speer. The stock stuff stretches like a spring.

    Welcome aboard!

yeah i didnt have the length to wrap around twice... have only put it up and down a few times on the weekend, not sure of my favourite way yet. some sort of tension device seems popular on these forums. will have to try...

i have allready been to the climbing shop looking at different ropes. u recomend the spear stuff? is this the same type in climbing shops?
