In my intro thread I was asked to show some of the stuff I've made.
Here is a hammock stand made from mohagany, aluminum, and grade 8 bolts. All of the materials were scavanged from the dumpster at work. When we moved into the new building, the previous occupants left behind several extruded aluminum pieces, we call it Item tubing after the company that supplies it. The mohagany and the bolts were from crates that we get vehicle seats in for testing. I believe that Lexus was the maker of those seats.
Anyway, here are a few pics of my setup.
RS nylon hammock--~$13 JoAnn Fabric
RS nylon Sock (Just Jeff style)--~$13 JoAnn Fabric
Converted used sleeping bag to underquilt--free+time
All of the suspension loops sewn onto the UC are seatbelt material cut to length--free
I haven't decided which hammock suspension to go with yet, so in the pics it is just 1" webbing with a lark's head on the hammock end and just wrapped around the uprights and fastened with a carabiner.
I did a little test for warmth/heat generation/heat retention inside of this setup. The ambient air in the house was 69F. After 30 min inside the setup it was reading 85F.
Anyways, here are the pics:
Oh, sorry about that dang light. I hit my head on it at least once a day.
