You might want to keep it simple, and make a loopie sling instead.

    Since Gadget brought it up...

Here's a photo comparison I did a couple of years ago. While the loopie in this photo is a bit misleading, I just checked my current one which confirms the minimum length, including the dwh.

Loopie vs whoopie minimum length. You can make loopies as long as you like, but the minimum length is dictated by the length of the bury (my current is 8").

Note that I'm using a whipping knot instead of the typical ucr prusik.

I would not recommend using the loopie as shown above, but rather as below (just took this photo).

Not sure if I am missing something, but it does appear that where the 2 slings meet is a single strand of rope .... wouldn't this be the weakest spot, I guess i am missing how this gets the strength of of 2 pieces??

That's one side of the adjustable loop. Try this trick with the picture in the original post. Draw a vertical line anywhere and it will always cross two or more strands.

Sorry for double post, clicked reply instead of edit.

Maybe this view will help clarify?

<EDIT>I meant to point out that two whoppie hooks could be spliced on, one for each end. Or use a soft shackle at the top end. No doubt there are other equally viable methods.</EDIT>
