French River Hang - Aug 3-6 2018 - Quest for the Bay

There's been a lot of interest in a French River/Georgian Bay hang around the Aug 6th long weekend, so I've decided to start a dedicated thread.

There are a few routes starting at Hartley Bay Marina, but there are countless ways to get out to the Bay. A couple of us are considering extending the hang (before or after) to spend a week paddling the area.

Note: We should also have a good back-up plan in case the weather forecast for the weekend turns foul. Paddling out into high winds or a storm in Algonquin is one thing; doing the same on the Bay is something else completely.

Chard - confirming with spouse this evening. I'm likely to go in earlier and meet up along the way after. To be confirmed once I've got official spousal approval of course.

Jane and I will be in for Saturday - whenever. Also, my buddy Jim will be coming in a solo canoe for at least part of the week - probably till Wednesday.

I'm in and wouldn't mind starting a couple days early. Might be able to do a few days after but I'd appreciate firming up dates so I can plan my big solo in August.

I like the idea of going in a few days early too ... & maybe stay a few days after as well if the area is as beautiful as it sounds.

Spousal approval preemptively secured through numerous (& ongoing) feats of domestic serfdom.

Why don't we draw a circle on the calendar from Wed August 1 to Monday August 6th. Options to extend before and beyond are wide open.

What can you say, you're REALLY "IN"!!! Ha ha. I may be in as well. Training regularly to see if I can pull off solo or if I'll be a bowman. No portages correct? That should make it easier for potential solo. 1-6 and possibly more sounds good. I'll have to figure packing though. So far 4 day in the kayak is the longest so far. Maybe I can even bride one of the freighter canoes to carry some malty adult beverage for me.

ps- hoping to have a new car by then, don't know that old reliable should be making the trip at 5hrs each way plus border time.- Who knows how long the wait will be if we are in a Trade War. Save all those aluminum cans so I can bring back some highly valuable aluminum cans. On second thought the contents is more valuable! Love all the fun names too!!!

Very disappointed I will have to miss this one. Work warehouse move is happening in August. So more trips in July and Sept in mind for us. Just got back from 4 days in Haliburton Highlands. Only way to beat the heat was to repeat trips from the Lake to my hammock (which was in our Eureka VCS 16 for bug safety).
