    Tarp Size

I'm a newbie, just got my HH at Trail Days. I bought an 8x10 tarp on the trail to replace the stock rainfly as I didn't know to tie to the trees. I like having the extra coverage but have a hard time getting the tarp tight. I've been hanging it diagonal and am wondering what the best way would be. I don't know one knot from another, my brother in law showed me how to put a loop in the rope to thread through and that does seem to tighten things up
better, any help would be appreciated.

Myself, as well as quite a few members here use the figure 9 rope tighteners.
They really make it so simple to hang the tarp. Here's a thread:

Welcome to the forum Panama Snail. It's nice to see another PC, FL person here. I would be glad to get with you sometime if you need a little help or encouragement. PM me if you want to get together sometime. I have the figure 9's that FanaticFringer spoke about and love them. I have an HH Expedition that I have modified to use the Ring Buckles and webbing, JRB Nest and a homemade BlackCat tarp that I made myself. I have suitable trees in my backyard if you would like to see it all set up.

    Hello PS, and Welcome!

I'm just up the road in Tallahassee.

We need to schedule a Panhandle Hang w/Stoikurt this year

Anyways, listen to the advice you get and try several different things to see what works for you. The folks here give great advice, and most every problem you encounter has been seen by some of us!

Blackie, if you're serious about the hang, that would actually work really good for me. I'm going to be about 2 hours away the week leading the 18th.

    Panama Snail,

Welcome to the Hanging gang and the forum.

Stringing the tarp taut in the first place is best.... But remember that Silnyl stretch 2-3 % when wet (dew is enough to bring on this phenomina... and yes, it shrinks some in the desert but not as noticable).... so if you want it to stay taught you'll need to incorporate some type of line tensioners or self tensioning lines.
