    Cinch Buckles/Amsteel chain links arrived!

Ok, I cheated and decided I wanted to learn to make my own splices, so I bought 10' of black amsteel and 2 cinch buckles...

If I had to do it again, I'd consider that at $5 a link, they're a bargain! Took me a while to make my own, and they're not nearly as pretty as Paul makes...

Anyway, I took off the ring buckle suspension I made from 2 short pieces of harbor freight nylon straps and 2-1.25" welded steel rings per strap. (2 loops with bar-tacks holding them together) 11.5" long.

Basically: Paul's cinch buckles rock. Setup time was nil, no 1/2-hitch to keep my fat butt off the ground, and worked perfectly with the polyester straps I got from Ed Speer.

Anybody want my old ring-buckle setup? They're not pretty, but they work. I'll never go back to them!

    AHE Rocks.

I really like the cinch buckles too. They are easier to adjust but I still put the half hitch in to be safe. The first time I tried them everything held fine but the second time I was sitting in my hammock getting ready to set up the stove and it slipped and to the ground I went. Basically what happened was the chainlink twisted just enough for the buckle not to be laying flat anymore so there wasn't enough force on the webbing to hold it in the jaws and it slipped.

If you're offloading them, I'll take 'em. I just ordered another HH and want to swap out the stock suspension. I already have the cinch buckles from AHE on my curren HH, but variety is the spice of life.

hmm good thought. I guess you can't be too safe...

On my backyard hammock stand, my straps are pretty tight. on my ring-buckles I had one slippery 1/2 hitch... first time I sat in it I had the not-too-slow ride to the ground... So I doubled it up. Thanks for the tip...

PM sent. I'll be rummaging through the gear closet this weekend for something to pay it forward.

    Thanks!
