Okay, so your cloth is just the stuff used in cloth/resin layups...gotcha. I'll be interested to see how well it sews...pretty loose weave.

The Ti stove is really tiny...it would be a challenge to get a long burn out of it. Smokehouse has one, I think, but he doesn't even try to burn his overnight.

It is a very loose weave, but once coated with RTV, I can't imagine it'll be too tough to sew. It'll be one "sheet" by then, with the fiberglass acting as a holding matrix.

Now to squeegie the RTV as thin as possible without pulling the glass fibers all over the place....

There's always Kevlar. I'll split a yard with you if you decide to get crazy.

Kevlar might not be bad at all! What is the top-end temp for Kevlar?? I know it's good to 350 F or so... maybe higher than that?

No idea, but I'm onto something else: used Nomex flightsuits for $24...I think I'm gonna buy one. I'll cut one leg off, and send it to you, if you're interested.

I've got a couple of used Nomex suits -- I use them for welding in tight spaces.
In fact, I've got one w/ tar all over it that I've retired!

I'll check & see if there's a good spot on it that'll do for a panel or two, and let you know what I find. If there's material available, I'll let you know & you can PM me your address then.

    Teamwork!

trying to hammock with a fire close is not wise to me. the only situation where it would seem prudent would be if you know there would be little wind, you know how to control the size of the fire with small sticks, and you know your tarp will stay high and taught above the fire, provided you are using one. thats a lot to rely on.

i tried to sleep by a fire last night on the AT with my bivy and down bag, on the floor. it was pleasant until it started snowing. then i went to lay under my tarp, where i forgot stakes so it was all staked out with little sticks. which gave out in high wind last night. had to get up and use rocks and large logs as deadmans. worked great.

It means that the smiley by itself didn't have enough characters.
