What if I dont pull the wings on a BB

I am close to ordering a BB..

What if I just hang the BB on 2 trees, without tying the wings/shelf... (lets say im in a swamp and don't have anything to tie the wings..

Do you guys have any youtube video or pictures demonstration what it look like?
Do you have the mosquito net glued to your nose.. I guess the shelf is still usable.. what else ?

Once again, thank you for your time guys! long live H.F.

It's another one of those preference things. Some people do and some people don't. I'm starting to not pull out the wing with the pocket, but I do pull out the one on the zipper side only when I'm ready to go to sleep just to keep the netting pulled away from my face. I only stake it when I'm ready to sleep so I'm not tripping over the cord all the time.

i didn't fool with it for my first 20 or so hangs in the BB...but it got cooler and I added the BBO so now through the colder months i'm staking out the wings. Later in the year I'll probably revert to wingless.

If you don't stake them out you could tear the fabric of the universe; bad stuff!

Very little will change without the wings deployed. You'll have a storage pouch instead of a shelf and there will be some loose material, but it will still feel pretty much the same.

But what if the fabric of the universe is directly in the direction of the fire.. you can't stake the universe to pull out your wings..

(As long as it dont weeken the hammock, its good news...)

    Awesome to hear this.
What tarp would you be getting if you purchase the WBBB?

I do the same as HappyCamper. I prefer the pocket side not staked as then it serves as a true pocket, rather than a shelf. I started out by not staking out the zipper side, but now I prefer staked. The tarp stake is usually close enough to reuse it.

I have checked the Backwood Winter Dream, the MacCat Deluxe and the warbonnet superfly.. and not quite sure which one.. I know that the Claytor Diamond fly could do just fine too and is the cheapest for the bucks that give that kind of surface...

Another concideration, beside one longer trip this summer, every expedition I do is pretty short.. between 1 and 2 nights in the wild.. weekends.. maybe I don't need that super duper max awesome tarp at 130$+

i'm a blackbird rookie, so take it for what it's worth. i hung outside in mine for the 1st time yesterday, seeing as how i got it 2 weeks ago, 1 day before we got like 3 feet of snow dumped on us. my old hammock was a claytor expedition, which i like and spent probably 70 days in this past year. however i always felt a little crunched in it. like it was built for someone 5'8" not someone 6'. i trudged through some snow yesterday down to the trees and hung my blackbird. i sat down into it (didn't mess with the tie outs - the were both unhooked), pulled off my mickey mouse boots, and laid down.

oh my god. i couldn't believe the space i had inside! the footbox was HUGE and i was able to achieve a flat lay immediately. i sat there for about 30 minutes before i started to get really cold, then i packed it up. i was extremely happy with my purchase

a neat feature i noticed that i don't think brandon advertised was on the double layer bottom. i have the 1.1. my old hammock had a double layer and the 2nd layer was completely open on the zipper side, so as to be able to slide a pad in. problem was you had to be careful sitting down in it that both layers were pulled out (so you didn't just sit on 1 layer and rip through). well brandon sewed about 2 inches of this fabric right near the middle of the hammock, which still allows me to put my pad in between layers, but it keeps the 2nd layer where it needs to be for structural purposes. WHEW
