    South MS hang?

Has anyone ever put together a hang for South Mississippi? I haven't been on a trip in a while and it'd be nice to see what new hammock stuff is out there.

I'd imagine that November-February would be the ideal time given the amazingly hot weather we have here at other times of the year.

It's been done, just not very often.

I would personally suggest you organize a hang yourself. Name a date, a place, reserve a spot (if necessary), and suggest a menu. If you leave things up in the air, nothing ever gets done or agreed upon.

I've organized a few group hangs. Sometimes there are just a few people, and sometimes there are 30 or more. It's not worth it to try and figure out some date that meets everyone's needs, because that's just impossible. If folks want to come, they'll readjust their own schedules.

FYI - if you look in the trip planning/trip reports section, you'll see that some states just don't do well with group hangs. I would put Mississippi in that category. Many of the Western states have the same issue (ever seen a Nevada group hang?). Just don't get your hopes up for some large turnout because it's probably not going to happen.

It’s not hard to plan a group hang. Just pick a date and a place and invite the masses. You might be surprised by a big turnout, or not, but either way, you get a weekend in your hammock! The Alabama group started very small, a few guys came and everybody even brought their own meals. It was more like a bunch of backpackers meeting up. Now it’s a family affair and old friends get together year after year and create traditions.

Plan a little “show and tell” with gear, or a loop splicing session. Maybe have a group hike if there is a good place for one. These are all nice ways to get to know one another.

I tried to put one together a few years ago at Cypress Creek Landing, but heavy rains that week caused flooding so it didn't happen. So like everyone is saying just post a date and place and they will come.

After talking with a friend who's agreed to help organize this, we've decided on a date. Due to work commitments and holidays and various other life happenings, we're going to aim for February 8-10, 2019. I know it's a ways out, but maybe with the advanced notice, it'll make for a decent turnout. It'll also give folks a chance to get some new gear for Christmas. :-D

    Once I've nailed down a spot, I'll start up a planning/info thread.
