Located just north of the US border near Thunder Bay, lies a beautiful Canadian peninsula on Lake Superior. A mountain range in the park, called the Sleeping Giant, offers spectacular views of the lake and some great rustic campsites.
We made a four day, almost 60 KM walk around the peninsula. Toots, a Thunder Bay resident and a veteran of these trails, guided us along the journey. While smoke from Canadian wildfires and some fog hampered the views, they did not diminish our fun.
We also were able to visit with folks working at the Thunder Cape Bird Observatory. It was fascinating to hear about their work and see a bird get banded.
We all had some good hangs. Toots, in a moment of insanity decided to try out his new duplex tent. He decided being a ground dweller wasn't for him.
