    Introducing CTEagle

    Greetings all!

So a number of years ago barrowed a Hennesey Hammock and tried a night of hammock camping. FROZE MY POSTERIOR OFF!!! It was the coldest night of my life got very little sleep. Problem one I was using a ten year old 20 degree mummy bag. Needless to say I was trying a new type of camping ill prepared. Now I have a new zero degree bag and will only hammock camp in fairer weather until I can save up for a proper under quilt.

Just picked up an ENO Single nest on sale to try for comfort. I have a campout planned for May and will most likely pick up the ENO One Link System. I'm excited to try something new. I've camped for years in a tent but would love to try something where I can put a "tent" any where.

Any advice would be greatly welcomed!

Well welcome on board! Glad to have you with us.

ENO great hammock ... but read the forums before committing to the One Link System ... most folks including me end up hating the slap straps ... as a matter of fact I'll give you a set if you want them. They stretch like crazy. The tarp ... I'd check out the posts on tarps ... much much better options then the ENO tarps. Look really cool but the coverage ... well kind of like kissing your sister. Good for shade but not much for weather protection.

Seriously ... if you just have to have the slapstraps ... PM me and for postage ... they're yours.

Buy a $6 CCF pad from Wal-mart. That sleeping bag will help but the real problem is that in the case of a hammock, you are compressing the bag and reducing its insulative qualities under neath you, but unlike ground dwellers, that is exposed to the circulating air under the hammock, wicking away precious heat from your "posterier"

A CCF pad for $6 makes a HUGE difference. I actually just spent a night out in 30* weather with a 23 year old 40* bag, when sleeping on the pad I was very comfortable, when I switched diagonals so I was off the pad I immediately froze. An UQ would be optimal, but for the cost a pad will give you lots of milage.

+1 on the pad. they are cheap and will really help with keeping you warm. if you don't think they are wide enough, you can buy/make a SPE or use a windshield reflector. happy hangin'

Thanks everyone. Really excited about the new adventure.

Hawkeye - thanks for the information. I haven't committed one way or the other. I may manufacture my own slap straps. A couple feet of 1" inch tublar and some knots might do the trick for initial adventures.

Phatpenquin - The Walmart CCF is on the shopping list. I'll probably trim down the CCF for a more rounded fit in the hammock.

The one inch tubular like used for climbing is made to stretch so you'll have the same issue with stretch ... useable but can get annoying during the night!
