    adding D-rings to tarp.

Hello, I do not usually delve into the world of DIY, but on this one thing i have my mother to assist me.

I want to add 1" D-rings to my speer 8x10 cattarp, and i was wanting to know the easiet way to go about this. The speer tarp has 8 tie out "loops" including the ridgeline ones, made of 1" webbing material.

Should I cut the end of the loop, put the D-ring in the loop, and just sew the loop back together at the end? or should I unstitch the webbing where it meets the tarp (), slip the D-ring in, and re-stitch the webbing to the tarp?

I am more of a fan of just cutting the end of the loops, and re-stitching. Do you think this would hold well?

If you do a good job sewing it should hold fine to cut and resew. Probably won't look quite as neat but it will do the job just fine.

It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

This was my first thought, is there enough length on the webbing to just fold it over?

I am wanting to do the same thing. My Granite Gear White Lightening has adjustable webbing straps at each tie-out. I would like to remove them and sew on some D-rings. I can't sew for shoot and I can't seem to find any instructions for basic hand stitching, using the search window.

My question would be; why add the D-rings to begin with when the tie-out straps serve the same purpose? Just seems like extra, unnecessary weight, IMO.

In my case, the original tie-out straps are about 12" long with a cinch buckle. I want to remove all that and replace it with just a d-ring. There are 8 of them, so it will reduce the weight, considerably.

Google hand stitching or sewing. There are many different types of hand stitches for different applications. One product which is overkill for nylon is the Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl. Using the instructions, you create a lock stitch like a sewing machine. I use mine occassionaly when I don't want to take something off the boat or drag into the house.

Sorry, was speaking in regard to the OP. I have the same tarp he does and was just wondering. In your case, I can understand.
