Looking at doing a thru hike of this trail sometime soon. Anyone complete it? Any helpful tips?

Be very aware of Texas Deer hunting season. Starts the first weekend of November, thru the end of January. Bring blaze orange vest and hat. Also, the LSHT has some odd rules. Basically, during deer season, you need to camp at the designated existing camp areas.
There is a Facebook group for it also.
There is also a book about hiking the trail. It is some years old. The trail is also flat and in places, dry. H2O cache's are a good idea.
No, I've not hiked it. I've been down a few times on sections and Hammock Hangers hang-outs (See the Texas Butt Bake).

I did the complete Lone Star Trail in 6 trips spread out over a few months. Best time in my opinion is right after Deer Season in February. It is cool, bugs and thorns are pretty much not an issue, plus you can camp most anywhere you like once the Hunting season has closed. It is close to 100 miles total so it was a Good feeling knowing we had completed it. Trail is marked pretty clearly, water is available for the most part that time of year. There is some pretty neat history along the way as well, especially the latter part of the trail on the East side of 45.
