    Novel 4-point suspension?

Saw this on Reddit, was intrigued by the hammock construction: https://reddit.com/r/Hammocks/commen...ng_with_style/

Should make the hammock feel bigger than equivalent size pure GE. Like a spreader bar except more stable: the tree itself is the spreader.

Is this novel or are there older examples?

Ha, I know half the people in this photo. The guy in the middle, second from the top, in sunglasses, is one of the guys who runs the company (Driftwood). I travelled with this crew of Philippinos who all used these hammocks.

The hammocks are very short and very narrow, and are lain in straight, with not much sag.

They're perfectly adapted to a very specific characteristic of the Philippino environment - the numerous public basketball courts that have a roof and usually at least one wall with bleachers. The bleachers have metal railings, and short/low-sag nature of these hammocks allows them to fit between the uprights of those railings. I think they used two uprights at each end to utilise the two straps coming from each end of the hammock.

One basketball court can house many travelling Philippinos, in very close quarters, like sailors in an old ship.

Not all that different from some stand set-ups intended for lounging. Almost the effect of a bridge.

The only problem I see is how do you have a ridge line with this set up?

It’s not a bridge, it’s not a gathered end...what would you call this? And who makes one in the US?

Not sure who makes one, but what I want to try next weekend is to put a dog bone through my DIY in place of the continuous loops and then attach the loops of the dog bone to each strap end and see what happens.

I've toyed with the idea that a four point suspension would allow for smaller / lighter spreaders in a bridge but being GreatBig, there're few bridges that are made for me and I don't have one for experimentation.
