    How deep?

So I finally picked up 2 6x6's, how deep should I sink these polls. They are 12 footers, and I'm a big guy. I am putting them 16' apart, because my hammock is a 12'er. I need 7' out of the ground. I hit hard clay at 3', really wanted 4' in the ground but not sure I can get it there. Lol.

Get the extra foot deep. But, as important as the depth, will be the circumference of the concrete. Clay is funky stuff and pliable when wet. If the amount of concrete in the hole is too narrow around the posts, they will tend to lean over in the ground under pressure from the occupied hammock.
I'm only 150# and managed to get one leaning after a summer of use.

I agree. That last foot in that hardpan clay will hold more than the first three.

If it leans--consider a cross bar--hope it doesn't lean--cause you might not want anything in your way.

I always throw a shovel or two of concrete in the hole before I set a post to reduce wood rot.

I'd go at least one more. Just take your time.....and like had already been said the circumference of the concrete is gonna be a big factor. If you have spent the money....go ahead...slow down and do her right. You'll be happier in the end.
