I will bring some Fritos, Shredded Cheese and a chopped up onion to enjoy with our venison chili!
LOL!!!
Seriously, though, I can also bring glutinous chocolate chips cookies if anyone is worried about the gluten-free variety! No one else in my family has a gluten intolerance, but they all snarf down the gluten free chocolate cookies quicker than the regular ones. Some gluten free stuff is pretty poor, but these particular chocolate cookies are tasty. They are a bit like brownie crunch if you’ve ever eaten that. I really don’t mind making some regular chocolate chip cookies too if anyone would prefer that.
I gave up a long time ago being able to enjoy other peoples food. Between various food allergies and being a very picky eater, I just go ahead and eat my own.
Cannot eat onions or bell peppers, go figure. Hot peppers are fine as long as they are reasonable. LOL
Just got through weighing my pack including food, but not water. I'm under 15 lb's which is nearly half of last years 29 lb's.
Greetings All
I figured I had best chime in before the weekend. This will be my first forum hang as well. I am looking forward to getting out and meeting some fellow hangers.
I was thinking about cooking up some brats ahead of time and bringing them to heat up over the fire for Friday. Maybe some peanut butter pop-tarts for breakfast on Saturday.
It looks like there are at least a dozen or so here on this thread that are coming. Should be a good time.
I should be there early Friday afternoon. I am not familiar with Taum Sauk so I wanted to give myself plenty of time to get things sorted. The link below shows the Walk In Camping Area. Is this where we are setting up for the first night?

Thanks

Quick question... I’m horrible about packing for “what if”... really trying to break myself of that so I can lighten my ridiculously overstuffed pack! So, I was wondering, will we have creek crossings on this trail or can I leave my water shoes home?
Welcome mr_monkeypants and sackofbeans! Do you two know each other? I notice you are both from O’Fallion. Last year was my first HF event ever. My teenage daughter and I came not knowing a soul, but had an awesome time with a bunch of great people! Now coming back for my second ever HF event!

On another site, I talked to people who had done this same hike over New Years. They advised bring extra socks, the trail is wet/muddy. As always, this trail is very rocky and most prefer shoes with good ankle support.
