just got some samples of parachute fabric yesterday. here's what i found. all military spec canopy fabrics are uncoated and seem as breathable as regular hammock fabric. there were 2 samples of a more high tech (and expensive) non military canopy fabric. both of these have a silicone coating on one side.

the first coated one listed it's air pearmeability as 5 cfm (i believe), and the other was listed as 0 cfm. did the shower head test on both. the 5 cfm one beaded through badly, but the 0 cfm one seemed to be alot closer to silnylon quality. it supposedly weighs 1.35 oz/yd. it is not silnylon though. also, both are listed as having a 25% elongation. this could be a negative, but i don't know how silnylon compares to this. all in all, i would see no advantage to using this over silnylon.

maybe the more breathable stuff would make a good hammock if strong enough.
if it's to thin, maybe a two layer hammock.
I too will something make and joy in it's making
