    DIY Climashield TQ

Shell: 1.1oz Olive Green 2nds (from Backwoods Daydreamer)
Insulation: 3oz Climashield Green (from OWF)

53" wide at head, tapered to 46".
Large footbox, and sewed up 24" from foot end.

Edged on outside edges w/ 1" grossgrain. Edged inside footbox w/ 1" ribbon (softer).

It will have an overcover of Insultex next.

Sorry about pic quality - done hastily w/ cell phone.

Looks nice. I like the footbox. Any quilting at all? Or is the Climashield just sewn at the edges? I made a narrower one with the same materials; now I'm thinking of adding some edge strips (6"?) to widen it. How long is your TQ (and how tall are you)?

No quilting yet, I'll probably add that later. It fits in a 10"x12" stuff sack with room to spare.

Two layers of Climashield in the footbox.

78" long. I made it as a loaner set (made an UQ of similar style) for getting friends into Hammock Camping. Since I won't know who may use it, I made it long and wide to accommodate most anyone.

Oh, and I forgot the most important #. 19oz in total.

Excellent weight with the footbox, extra insulation and groosgrain edging. I only wish patterns would be posted...Great Job!!!!!

PS: Can't wait to get your camo so I could start my own. I'm allready stealing the grossgrain idea!

I too like the footbox. The olive is a great color. For a summer quilt, you can't beat the weight.

I made one about two weeks ago now(to match my already documented DIY rectangular UQ).

I did mine a little different. Used 5oz cs. Debated doubling the insulation in the footbox but decided instead to double it down the center of the whole quilt. So I have a TQ with 5oz overall insulation across the 48 inch width but with a double layer(10oz) 16 inches wide down the center.

I forget the weight but it compressed smaller than my sleeping bag. Used it at 50 degrees and was too warm. I'm thinking 20s should be pretty easy. Only problem is that now I need a lighter weight one.

One question - why the gross grain edging? Just for looks?

Be sure to run one long piece of gross grain from the top, down to where the sides are sewn together, and back to the other side top. This will create a strong rip-guard at the V where the quilt is sewn together.

Quilt pattern will be attached to this post.

    I was wrong. It's 18oz.

Don't know the temp rating yet. I suspect 40 could be pushing it, depending on whether you're a cold sleeper or not (which I am). With the soon-to-follow Insultex overcover though, 40 shouldn't be an issue for any sleeper.

Three reasons. I thought I might add snaps as the way to hold an Insultex overcover in place and grossgrain gives a good solid attaching point for the snaps.

Second, running one strip from top left, down to the V, and back to top right creates a good rip-guard for the foot box area.

And thirdly, I sewed this quilt together like a sandwich, ripstop-climashield-ripstop, rather than the more common method where you flip it inside out afterward. All the exposed edges needed to be covered both for looks and for strength.

Curious as to why the footbox is 15x8? I would have thought it would be more squarey unless you have little feet?
