I'd be glad to chime in. First, you're right. Just leave snaps undone if you want more ventilation. I'd rather have more than needed than too few since you can choose to use them or not. (It takes a lot of snaps to even begin to register grams on my very detailed scale).

These are specialty Industrial snaps. It could be a bit pricey to use the same ones I do for a DIY'er, as the apparatus required to affix them costs in the three digits - it's a very specific type of snap and won't work with standard snap press die sets.

There are companies that sell sew-on snaps that might be a more cost effective solution for the DIY'er.
Scott, would it be possible to upgrade a V.2 to the snaps. I think Kristen would be much happier with them. If I did send it back, I would probably have you add some side tie-outs as well.

I new it...lol...a V3 Very nice scott...that is a beauty of a tarp...Although I do love my V2 in black.....My one question/concern about the snaps is...I have snaps that close a flap over my zipper on some of my rain jackets...the problem I have encountered is that after many years of abuse and use...dirt and grime worked it's way into the snaps...I have cleaned them but they still dont snap toogether and if they do they dont really stay for long. The dirt prevents the snap from securing tightly. My question/concern in regards to the snap would be if dirt and grim worked its way into the snaps, would that prevent the snaps from snapping toogether. But as always, great trip report, supurb tarp, and Im loving the continual inovations that the cottage companies keep makeing on their gear to make it better and better for us members
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

The Winter Dream has comes with a feature to convert into a Hex tarp only 2" longer than the MacCat Deluxe (and a good bit wider) - wider isn't an issue as you can just widen your pitch or pitch it higher, depending on your terrain.

There's no need to use all four tie-outs on any of the large tarps - you just have the ability to expand if you'd like and weather calls for it.

    Another Option

Today I found some Size 0 S-biners...they are the same size as mitten hooks, and both weigh 1g. I find the S-biners easier to manipulate than the hooks.

I may make a stab at stitching tiny loops of utility line or SNT on, in place of the gg, the limpness of which is a big part of the "problem."
