As long as it's dry, I don't see any problem with leaving ripstop stuffed into a bag. I store most of my hammocks in stuffsacks.

I only asked because mine is fairly compressed...it took me a good minute and a half to stuff it in there

One thing to keep in mind is that smaller stuffsacks often result in taking up more pack space. Think of it this way...if you stuff the sack tightly, it's a cylinder. Now you have to pack several cylinders into your pack, and the space between the cylinders is wasted. But if each stuffsack isn't a tight cylinder, you can squish all the sacks together inside your pack and they'll shape to each other, taking up all the available volume in your pack. This is good for a few reasons.

1 - It's easier to stuff each item into its sack.
2 - When your pack is only 2/3 full, the sacks will fill up the rest of the space, making the load more stable and more comfortable to carry.
3 - When you need more volume, you just smash everything into your pack and push down slowly...you'll get more volume to put something else on top.

So once you figure out how to size your stuff sacks exactly like you want, it might be a good idea to add a bit of volume to make packing easier.

makes sense. This was my first attempt at sizing a stuff sack to a specific item --- It worked, but it's super tight most likely because I didn't leave enough for seem allowance. I'll probably throw another one together here soon.

I don't mind making/remaking these because they just seem SOOO easy to do in contrast to the tarp i've been sewing.
