Replacing the stock ropes

I just can't make my peace with the stock Clark ropes, so I am thinking of replacing them with 7/64 Amsteel whoopie slings. Has anyone done this? If so, did you simply just replace the rope through the hammock channel like the original was, or did you do some kind of wrap/whipping thing? The Amsteel is so much smaller, I'm a little leary of one pass through the channel cutting or damageing the hammock material. Any ideas here? Oh, I'm about 200# nekkid weight. If it's a bad idea, let me know.

I have a HH and it was easy to swap them out, but it'll be even easier for you. IMHO, it's the best all around suspension. No fuss, worry about stretching or breaking and super light and easy to adjust.

I converted my Clark UL to the whoopie slings and just ran the amsteel thru the channel. You could run some small webbing or larger rope thru the channel in a loop then connect the whoopie slings to that. Some of the small dyneema climbing slings would work great for this.

heres how i swap mine

i am also leary of that thin rope biting into my clark.
1 use thicker rope fore your chain link
2 if you use a 7/64 chain link use the thickened end for the knot end

3 use thicker rope fore the whole whoopie with a fixed brummel
i am currently useing option 1
remmember a chain link on each end will add to the minumum distance of the trees you can use.as will the whoopies.

I converted my HH Deep Jungle before it was ever used. Not looking back, plus they are so fun to make.

I wouldn't sweat it, and don't sweat it. I've replaced the stock ropes on my Hammock Bliss w/noseeum net and my double Eno with whoopie slings. I am 250 and am not too worried about it. I put them on just like Opie says to and they are fine. My slings are the 7/64 also. I got rid of a wad of rope about size of my fist from my Hammock Bliss.

I second HamMike. I replaced my ropes on my Clark NA to Whoopie slings I bought from Stormcrow. Saved alot of weight, and the adjustments are so easy! I use left over HH tree straps from my husbands stuff and a toggle system to my whoppie sling. That's it! I am also heavier than you, and 5'10, curvy female, and I'm just swinging away on it. I just make sure the whoopie sling is securely hanging on the Knot of the toggle set up. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the reassurance! I'm going for it. Maybe if I drug those black ropes behind the pickup for 2 or 3 hundred miles, they might soften up and be useable, but right now they are kind of like trying to tie and work with slinkies!! Besides being bulky and cumbersome. Thanks again.
