    Getting out of a hammock

Does anyone else have a hard time getting out of their hammock? Is it cos I'm short, "pudgy", or hanging too high. I find that the edge cuts into my legs.

Funny thing is that I'm finding it easier to exit the fabric Bliss Hammock-in-a-bag that I just got. When I sit up and am trying to get out, my butt is practically resting on those @***# knobs on the vario hammock stand.

    Any tips/suggestions?

Yes. But not sure it's why you do.

I think what you described comes down to the hammock, how wide it is and how you have it hung. Try making some adjustments. little tighter or looser, little lower. If I am in a deeper hammock, garbing the edge to pull my self around can help a bit.

I am assuming a top loader here but anyways turn sideways getting as much of your legs out as easily possible - they will be off the ground most likely at this point - then take a wide grip (spread your arms wide) on the edge of the hammock where you are getting out and pull - at this point you will rotate up so that you legs can now reach the ground - continue leaning forward and get your feet under you and then stand up

I've been stranded in a DIY hammock one time. Thought I was going to have to spend the night til my wife came out to go to work. Not fun. I have mobility issues. The only hammock I can get out of easily is a bridge or a bottom entry HH.

    What type of hammock?

I had a Skeeter Beater Pro that would swallow me up and I'd have quite a time wrestling my way out of that taco . I've since bought a Warbonnet Blackbird and it's easy to get out of but, hard to want to get out of .

i have had similar experiences with top loaders. I found the easiest way was to hang lwer to the ground, and then walk the hammock backwards as I was getting out. Since changing to the blackbird, which I would clasify as a side loader I haven't had that problem unless I hang too low to the ground.

Sometimes I flail around like someone is pushing me on the chest keeping me from even getting my weight somewhat vertical. Other times I kick my legs over, my body comes up and I step out. Haven't really thought too much why it works some mornings better than others, 'cause I'm usually still half asleep.

I made a gathered end 12' hammock that swallows it's victims. A structural ridge line offers a handle and some leverage.
