    My thought follows Nudgeworth.
    Hammock twice as wide as normal with a seam in the middle. "W" wrapped, where you can set the "rise" of the center seam for the conditions. From almost flat (for intimate times) to a high wall (for the argument times). The seam being slightly more taught would have you going "away from center" while sleeping. If one person went alone, you make a two layer hammock.

    I like the idea of a regular hammock with a sewn channel for an additional suspension line down the middle. This could be tensioned to create two pockets, or left loose to make a single pocket.
