    noob question

Thanks everyone for being so helpful. I have decided on the WB Traveler/net, and want to go as lite as possible. I'm really new to all of this, thinking whoopie slings and tree huggers with dutch clips....does this sound correct? What else do I need?
    thanks,
    leigh

Sounds like you're set. Now you need a tarp of some sort.

Good call on the traveler. So far it's still my favorite. I think I'm gonna grab one of the WB bugnets when I order my WBBB.

Let me add .... since you say your new ...... webbing and cinch buckles and a light biner or dutch clip will be super simple and you can focus on correct hanging and warmth and such.
When I first started there were no whoopie slings and just keeping everything real easy made it fun and easy....... "how am I going to hang my whoopies from my tree straps" etc...
You could add all that later.
Since I did these videos I realize that whoopies/tree strap/marlin spike/toggle-stick just gets confusing to noobs.....

I have an ENO hammock and have ordered the WB Traveler bug net (so it sounds like a very similar setup to yours).

I am using whoopie slings and will actually be making tree straps this afternoon, possibly a ridgeline, too.

It's too bad you can't come on the E. TX hang, but if you're nearby I'm sure there will be a good chance we'll run across each other and we can share ideas. I was wanting to do a section of the Neches this year that'd take a full weekend (hwy 94 - US 59).

It is difficult to dilute everything down if you're a newbie. I put a description on my site about making whoopies with a fixed loop at the other end to try to simplify things a little bit. It's just summarized from other info that was in several places here.

    Thanks all,
I didn't mention the JRB Hudson River, the Yeti, the GG pad (for my legs/tootsies)or the MacCat Deluxe, which are also on my list of purchases On this post I was just mainly wanted to make sure I had everything I needed just to hang it
Shug, I have watched ALL of your videos...such the introvert, you really gotta come out of that shell man! HA! I know how much work they must have been so I'd like to send out a big thank you from all us noobs in noobland.
Yeah Nate, I really wish I could come, and as a fellow paddler, I'm sure our paths will cross on some occasion. I've been known to paddle the Neches on occasion as well as some of the other waters down your way. I'm going back to the vids now.

Leigh, huh? Funny, there's a grad student named Leigh who has an office down the hall from me who sleeps in a Hennessey. She doesn't paddle AFAIK, though. She's invited me to hike down in the Big Thicket for a weekend this spring.
