That depends on how big around your trees are and how for apart they are. Most use 10 feet or 3 meters per end. The lightweight crowd of course uses less. Its really dependant on 'your' personal situation. More is nice, but not always needed. And of course its extra bulk and weight.

    Up to you really.

I've always used the 14 footers that came with the blackbird. real versatile site selection with that length. at the same time though, they are bulkier and such. i'm not trying to break any records for lightweight stuff though so i dont care much.

That would give you plenty of versatility. Use them long for a while, and if you feel confident that you don't need the excess, cut them. Easier to do it that way than the other way around.

If your doing planning on hangin from the big old caledonian pines, you will appreciate the extra length, IMO. Some ive tied to have been 12 ft round. Dyneema doesn't weigh much for the extra length.

I don't know about them Caledonian cones but some cones are heavy enough to brain a body and covered in hooks more than sharp enough to tear through silnylon and flesh faster than Shug can eat a slab of Spam.
