Cold weather + heavy snow = the only time most of the perimeter / Steve Newman world walker trail is passable on foot. I did about 4 miles of it about a month ago, it had started to melt / thaw under the snow, yea, not fun.

Good video! Some day I need to learn how to do that.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

Thanks! I wouldn't have had the patience to tie it up with string. Right now, in addition to reducing pack weight, I am trying very hard to simplify. If it requires much of a fiddle factor, or extra equipment/setup, I'm finding another way. The UQ suspension is very close to that line, but acceptable for now. To quote Shug, when I'm in the woods, I just like to "sit and stare a while..."

While you were being snowed in at Mt. Rodgers, I hiked that trail to the east with temps in the teens. I could tell it was just a long, skinny swamp for most of my hike, but with the low temps it was all frozen. Didn't make the hiking much easier, though. Little humps of frost-heaved soil and billions of small ice-covered divots/footprints made for some sore feet and ankles.

Any time you want me to show you how I edit videos, let me know!

    Great video. Thanks.

Two words to solve your YakTrak problem.

    Kahtoola Microspikes.

Easily the best piece of gear I have bought in years.

Heh, funny...my patients tell me the same thing. I don't always feel calm and soft-spoken, though. Glad you like the videos.

I've been waiting for someone to tell me those two words. I kept saying them to myself on that hike!

I've heard they are good, but already had the Yak Trax, which I do like for walking on hard pack or ice, nice for walking to work, etc.
