    Cheap (inexpensive) Tarp

Looking for a good entry level tarp. Must be affordable (read: inexpensive). To say I am on a budget in an understatement. I can't afford a budget.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ken T.

Is weight a consideration or durability a consideration? Are you car camping, hiking, in the back yard? We could help a bit more if you told us what features and qualities are most important to you-we all understand cheap but most here will suggest paying for quality for the first and only time.

Let us know what you need and we'll let you know the cheapest you can get away with.

I've heard of plastic painters drop cloths being strung up for a temporary tarp. Hard to beat the cost there but the durability is less than ideal.

For the truly cheap, Tyvek. Scrounge some from a construction site and make a tarp. There are articles here on working with Tyvek.

So true, Trooper. Durability edges out weight. Plan on multi-use; solo, car camping, backpacking with family (them in tent). D-rings would be nice. Your point about making a good investment from the start has got me thinking. Value can be measured in more ways than just cost.

    All comments are appreciated!

Those are good tarps for the $$$. I use one. Unfortunately, they're out of stock until May.
