Almost finished with my first UQ and everything was going fine until I started adding the grosgrain channels for the shockcord. Now the bottom stitch is full of loops. I've tried to adjust the tension but it didn't help, the top stitch is fine. Do I need to increase tension or is this some other problem?

Rethread the whole machine. It is possible the spool thread is not tensioned correctly. Remember that the thread on the bottom comes from the spool, thread on the top comes from the bobbin. Also make sure the presser foot is all the down, or as down as possible. When the presser foot is raised it loosens the spool thread tension.

Bobbin Tension - A Personal Viewpoint
Mine will get jaked up sometimes,,
The first thing I check now is to make sure it is threaded correctly.
I also make sure the bobbin is loaded in the ching a ling with the thread going the correct direction.
And I take a flashlight, to make sure a small thread isn't caught up down below some place.
As cheap as needles are, chunk it and put a new one in. And check to make sure it is put in correctly.

I wasn't aware that the stitch on top was from the bobbin (new to thread injectin) so sounds like I need to increase the tension to tighten the bottom stitches?
Already did the re-thread and new needle.

I had the same problems... tighten the top tension, I also found a denim needle helped a lot...
And, make sure the machine is CLEAN, just a bit of lint can cause "issues". Lubrication is also essential, follow the owners manual for timing & how much & where.

Tightened the tension and lengthened the stitching and this helped a lot except where the material was the thickest.

It may help to keep tension on the fabric in front and behind the needle. Pull towards you on the front, pull away from you in the back. Don't interfere with the speed that the fabric feeds, just hold it taut.

I think the bobbin lock the stitches from below, not the top. Good luck. Be sure to remember where you started from when adjusting the tension. Chances are you will end up right back to those settings.
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.
Loops forming on the bottom of the fabric are from the spool thread. Not the bobbin.Originally Posted by Mule
If you are having the problem on the thickest part of the fabric I would be suspecting the presser foot is riding up too far and releasing the tension plates for the spool thread. Try increasing the presser foot pressure to force the fabric down.
