    Texas- Wilderness First Aid

I think that the location will end up being on the north eastern part of Texas, somewhere several hours north of Houston, east of Austin, east of Dallas, and in the piny woods.

Unless it won't work for us for some reason, I'm happy with Fairfield Lake.

I'm adding a poll for dates. If you are serious about attending vote for the weekends that you would be able to attend. You can vote for more than one weekend. Only vote if you are serious about attending, since I'm going to use those numbers for reserving campsites, etc. The most popular weekend before voting closes (TBA) will be it.

Note: I will have to obtain the materials and certification, so if I can't make that happen quickly the first weekend may not be possible.

I'm on the road this week and don't know my April calendar by memory but my hunch is it's already full. I'll check later this week and vote then.

If I am not available to be there the whole time, I will visit if I can and am still willing to help with setting it up on this end as much as I can.

The location sounds perfect...but the optional dates suck.

2,3,4 is just too soon, and I'll be getting a dose of chemo the week preceding. I could potentially be feeling absolutely rotten. I can make no plans.

9,10,11 I'm going to be in Baltimore, MD.

16,17,18 I'm going to be having a big party for my 1yr of remission anniversary (which is technically the preceding weekend, but this is the next best option).

30,1,2 is getting too close to finals. I have a really big project I'm working on for one of my classes and I may need that weekend for my project.

This can't be later...say, sometime in June?

I'll see how these dates stack up with everyone, and if there aren't very many bites, then I guess we'll reschedule. I have 3 brothers in the Austin area, so I'm traveling there all the time.

Fairfield is a beautiful park and not as far from DFW. I'm voting for there!

It looks like only one weekend will work for me in April and I am the only one who voted for it, 9-11.

    June will be too hot.

To me anyway the season for camping in this part of the world is Oct-May.

Ahhh, you wussy! You just gotta build up to the heat. A couple years ago I did the Neches canoe race at 108F. I was only getting warmed up by the end.

My wife, on the other hand, who had just arrived in TX that week, felt like she was going to die.

Ain't too hot until late July. And there's always water to cool off in!

I am heading in tomorrow to get the certification to teach this class. Crossing my fingers. So far there isn't very much interest, just a few people voted on dates. I'll leave the poll open a bit longer to see if we pick up anyone else.

    Texas Seasons

In Texas there are only two seasons-summer.....and AUGUST! June isn't really hot like August. You northerners must have gotten soft. A little heat and you wuss out. Come on. Little need for the uq's down here. Just bring double bug nets, cause our skeeters are huge and double thick underpads to somewhat blunt the bites. If you do that, they only feel like they are pinching you! Come on down, y'all! Love to have you.
