thank you for pointing that out to me.
the chrysalis is a very interesting though heavy tent. My third gen design would add about 1.5 pound to your hammock and replace all tarps and bug socks.

You could make the top out of event and get plenty of breathability. Then the problem becomes the bottom, how to keep those uq's dry? make a special pocket, like a pad pocket but way thicker to slide in underquilts? Then the outer layer would be event too, to protect the uq's from water with a zzipper with storm flap to seal in the uq's. just an idea.

So far as I know, there are no "retail" sources of eVent. There was some discussion over on BPL forums a while back that talked about minimum order quantity of 500-1000 yds (a full roll).

I will never use an underquilt just from a philosophical perspective. I think adequate insulation in the hammock will be adequate for me. If I am out in weather cold enough for an under-quilt, I will be in a 4 season mountain tent on my Warmlight 3" thick down filled air mattress inside a western mountaineering sleeping bag.

If you guys look around online you will find small amounts of Event. Check ebay and check the big fabric houses. What about goretex fabric? Besides a lot of hype, event and goretex ARE IDENTICAL materials, the only difference being what kind of fabric they are laminated between.

Jim - I have a summer UQ suitable for 50F and above. Surely you wouldn't want a 4 season mountaineering tent for that?

I've also used only a pad, with no underquilt, down to the teens.

It's obviously your choice on what insulation to use...but the philosophy of underquilts is independent of temperature.

I finally got all of the material to build my "rain sleeve" but I find that my ideas and needs have changed since I started, however there may be something of value for someone.

This is an Equinox 10x8 tarp. I bought a grommet kit but then I discovered that it already had grommets 26" from the ends. I bought ten micro carabiners on ebay, they weigh a total of one ounce. I attach the stake out cords with the microbiners. As you can see, I have moved the microbiners to the second set of grommets and clipped the ends together to create a more weather proof tarp. In nice weather I would clip the stake outs to the end grommets.

This photo of the end shows the tarp closed by two microbiners. The easiest way to get into the hammock is to unclip the biners and walk in through the end.
My original plan was to sew mosquito netting under the tarp and up the ends so that it would match the ends of the tarp when clipped closed. Now I want to keep the tarp unmodified, so instead I am sewing a separate "half length" bug bag to go over my ridgeline. A bug bag that only covers the upper half of my body, and of course the question is - how does it seal and how to get in and out of it. Probably velcro.
