could you bend regular tent poles into a triangle shape, then hang it over your ridgeline so it can slip over you and you don't have to have the cover over you.

Hi Dr and welcome to the site. I see this is your first post, I am flattered. Anyway If I get your drift, you mean something that can basically rotate around the hammock. If that were the case what force would hold the set up in an extended way along the ridge line, in such a manner that it could be rotated? I suppose having the bottom swing loose might not be that bad. Now if you had triangles on the end and three pieces between them you would have a rigid structure that would be more like you are suggesting, but it would be heavy and it would still blow in the wind.
Keep thinking and writing in

I was thinking that if you had a triangular structure keeping it out far enough away from you to keep your uq from getting wet, then it would be ok for moderate weather and steaking it down wouldn't be very difficult from there if the wind is too bad. there would only be two steaks that you would need to worry about to keep it from blowing in the wind, but that wouldn't be a necessity if the weather is not supposed to be very bad. the base of the triangle would be heavier so light wind would not affect it too much.
I am trying to fix a prototype for something of that nature out of some old tent poles I have and will post Pictures when i am finished with it.
