I put my PeaPod in an Insultex insulated hammock sock... worked real well.

Don't think mixing down with synthetic fill would work well, though.

There's a commercial brand that does this. I don't remember which, though. Sorry.

I think JustJeff did that a few years back. it had down in the center and synthetic on the edges.

I think the military had/has an extreme cold sleeping bag system that used a mixture of synthetic and down/feathers. Heavy, but then it was for extreme cold. Maybe Take-a-Knee has used one and could comment?

Mountain Equipment Co-op has a couple sleeping bags that use both synthetic insulation and down insulation. They call it their Hybrid Sleeping Bag.

    Cheers

I made an insulated hammock with a layer of Climashield quilted to the bottom cover but not to the top hammock body. Then I put down into the space between the Climashield and the top. The Climashield stays in place, which is important especially at the sides and ends of the hammock where down might settle more. The down lofts to fill the space above the Climashield which prevents air gaps under the knees. I will use this technique again and document it with pictures. There are more details of the construction, such as the way bungee cords help define the thickness of the insulation and enable adjusting it somewhat.

A few people got issued those things. Rolled up (you couldn't really compress it) it just about filled up a LARGE ALICE pack. People just suffered with the old Mountain bag or bought their own (I had a Snow Lion polarguard with a down liner in AK) When we got issued Wiggy's bags in SF in the 90's, we thought we were livin' large.
