Folks, this is going to be a long series of videos. In order to keep each one below 10 minutes, I had to make five parts just to cover the first two days in the Chisos Mountains.
I haven't figured out how to use VirtualDub and Avidemux (freeware editors) to make a slide show or to include still pictures between video segments. Nor have I figured out how to dub music into the video. I used VirtualDub to append and cut the AVI files, as well as to flip the output. I used Avidemux to convert it to FLV format.
The only credits I feel compelled to provide are for Skippy (Brett) and Hedcase (Joel).
Joel is an enthusiastic, steady hiker who knows his limits, and rarely shows any sign of running out of energy. (Emory Peak at 7800' got to all of us!) He is as frugal with gear as a Scot. He is a great conversationalist with a wealth of knowledge on many topics. His wife and 3 kids are beautiful. He and I hung together at Linville, so we're getting to know each other pretty well.
Brett is a hiker, rock climber and hanger who loves to get outdoors and brings enough enthusiasm for everyone! His wife and three kids are beautiful. He makes fast friends with everyone around him. People in the campground introduced themselves to me because they had already met Brett. The serious fellows at the US Border Patrol check point were completely disarmed by Brett's happy demeanor, as they stared with puzzlement at our load of huge bamboo poles. "Hey, man, you wouldn't believe it if we told you!" said Brett, before they could speak. Then he told them. Everyone who travels with Brett will enjoy his company. He and I hung together in the Sipsey, so we're getting to know each other pretty well.
I'll leave the details of the story to the discussion, and in subsequent posts I will include some of the hundreds of still pictures that we took. As soon as I figure out how, I'll include the stills in the videos.
We enjoyed Big Bend so much, we are sure that we will go back soon. I hope you can see why through the videos.
