Does anyone know if any of the Georgia State Parks allow hammocks in trees? I'm planning on staying at Crooked River State Park and would like to know if I should just sleep on the gound.

itsandy,
As coincidence would have it, I had a conversation with a ranger at Ft. Yargo a week ago. I asked about hammocks in the park as long as they were attached responsibly to the tree. He did not bat an eyelash and gave an enthusiastic "no problem"!
So, not sure about the park you will be visiting, but I am guessing if you asked along with mentioning being conscious of attachment points, you should be able to do it! Can't hurt to ask!
Good Luck!
Chris
I am staying at Tallulah Gorge this weekend and when I made reservations I made sure to mention that I would be in a hammock and there was nothing said about hammocks not being allowed. When in doubt, call them and ask.

Yargo is the only State Park I've hung in and didn't have any problems.
Sounds like Unicoi might be a good place to schedule a group hang and invite the rangers to come out for a presentation. Did they give you any reasons they don't allow it?
No problem in many of the GA state parks.

I followed the advice of chickenwing and called! They said that it was okay to use a hammock, as long as Tree Huggers are used. No ropes, screws or nails in the trees.
Be sure to go to the Hot Dog place at Peters Point. It is also a nice paddle to Cumberland Island if you time right. Go with the wrong tide and a 2 hour trip could take all day.
