Some of the Jersey crew have been hanging together for eight years or nine years. My first ever group hang was just me and silentorpheus at Batona Camp back in 2011. It was only one night, but there are stories to be told! The bumper ripped off my rental car (no insurance), and pineys (people who live in the Pine Barrens) were burning pallets with flames going 20 feet in the air.

By the way, who is bringing pallets? We need those pallets so somebody will melt their shoes or catch their pants on fire!

I'm on the hunt literally for some squirrels to roast over the fire with my wrought iron squirrel cooker I won a while back at a NEHHA hang but they are sparse this fall!

You won't find any squirrels in the pine barrens. No grey squirrels anyway. Sometime a smaller red squirrel. My guess is since this camp has mostly pine trees, there are very few oaks and therefore very few acorns for food.

Theyre everywhere. They eat the pine cone seeds. If you look you'll see little piles of pine cone pieces all over

Gotta disagree. They're not loud, but they're everywhere.

I bet those are reds. We lived in a similar area here in Maine. In ten years we saw precisely ONE grey squirrel and it looked like it had been lost at sea on a deserted island for three years. We had scrub oak with the pitch pines but that's red oak and they don't like the acorns as much as white oak, and people's bird feeders.
