Well, I was waiting to see what the conditions would be at west clear creek. I talked to a guy who was up there a week ago and he said the water levels were to high to cross the creek. It was his opinion that at least another month's time until it's safe to cross. That is where I was wanting to go. So now it's up to you all. The only suggestion so far is Chevelon canyon lake. How does that sound to you guys?

Chevelon Lake is OK guess, but not much else to see and no hiking involved. I would recommend Parson Spring as a much nicer place and better chance of decent weather. We did an AZ hang there last year around the same time and it worked out really well. Here's a picture that Te-wa took from that trip:

Parson Springs is not possible. The first ”creek” crossing is actuallu 2 river crossing that require some chest high swimming and is moving very fast. Our neighbor was there last weekend and said that the pools about 2 miles in where so deep that they would have had to swim across and the water was ice cold.

Wow. But 4 weeks from now the water will be much lower I suppose ... Same with West Clear Creek.

What about the Superstition Wilderness as another alternative? It has places like Reavis Ranch with good trees around for hanging, and perennial streams flowing for water. It's a good time of year to go there, and will also involve a moderate hiking effort.

BTW, I may have a work conflict that weekend :-(. I'll know in a few more days.

Skittles (aka. Redmarbleshoe) and I are going to Reavis Ranch this weekend to hang. We'll post on conditions after the weekend. If the roads are open, Aspen Springs from Pinchot Cabin is only 2 miles with plenty of trees and trails with a spring. We'll check the Prescott ranger station for ideas in this area.

West clear creek was option 1 for me, Parsons spring was number 2. My vote is still one of these places if the water levels come down. I have never been in the superstitions/Reavis ranch. Rook will you report back to us after your trip this weekend. Maybe we can still shoot for either West clear creek or Parsons spring with Reavis ranch as our backup. I hope it turns your you are able to go Drewboy

Rook did Taylor Cabin just a few weeks ago, and cross the creek on sat. with it to his knees. Didn't go over Casner due to snow, and Sunday on the way back, the River was up to their crotch. (sorry...couldn't think of a better describing word)

There is a video of the boys crossing it on his Youtube (rookthepagan)

I agree with all that has been said. In 4 weeks the water might be much lower and easier to cross. But then again with the snow melting it might be the same....

Since Rook and I are in Prescott/Cottonwood, we can check it out as the time gets closer. Parsons is a Very EASY hike and really nice, if only we could get further in. Supposed to be in 4 miles b4 camping.

Whatever you guys decide, and if you want us to pre-run it, we can. I need the exercise...so give me an excuse.
It's not the pace....it's the experience.

Taylor's Cabin sounds cool http://www.hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=317 But the trail head seems hard to get to without a high clearance vehicle.

That is not a short or easy hike.

On another note, do we have a head count?

    I'm going.
