yeah, it's only a matter of time. This liquid grip is a rubber like coating that you can paint, dip or spray on tools and it drys into a rubber grip. Perhaps the same effect could provide a protective coating on the edges. Dip it, let it dry and then thread the string through. It's just crazy enough to work. I've got some spray on we were using to try and repair some old cheap soccer goalie gloves to be serviceable for practice gloves (verdict still out on that, the foam palm wants to absorb the liquid), but I think the dip would be better to get a good coat.
