Jim, you can buy or make bug netting to go around your hammock 'Warbonnet or ENO'. Something also to consider about your tent. If the end is closed off and the bottom is closed off it is going to get very hot in there which will make for an unpleasant experience.

Great pictures (especially that first one!!) I can relate!!!!
do you have some way to adjust your tent over your hammock either before you get in or after your inside the hammock? Have it adjustable but still able to lock it in place, once you've got it where you want it.

Some hammocks have built-in bug nets. Or you can use a tarp and a hammock sock or bug tube to accomplish it, and still have a dry place to cook and pack/unpack. Some of those concepts might help you design your project.

    Jim,
From your pictures it looks like the ridgeline attaches right at the end of the hammock at the head end and about 15" or so up the support rope at the foot end. Would you get another 15" of coverage if you reversed the tent so it pulls right up to the hammock? You might need to adjust the support ropes to get the hammock angle the way you want it.

While I applaud innovation and experimentation, I'm not seeing the advantage of the "hammock tent" over a well-configured tarp.

Hey all you guys, thanks for the suggestions.
It dawned on me exactly how to produce a killer bug proof breathable water tight hammock tent, that will not drip condensation on the hammock, then it dawned on me that this will revolutionise tarp camping and so unfortunately I am not prepared to release the new generation design until I can copyright it and find a manufacturer who will pay me royalties for the design.
Any tarp manufacturers out there looking for a totally new innovative product that will kick the competition's butts should contact me. Sign a confidentiality agreement with me and I will show you the design.

WV, you are correct thank you, but it no longer matters to the third gen desin.

Beep, Sorry I can't tell you the advantages except that it would also be bug proof.

Before you spend too much time on this project i'd suggest to you to use a hammock with integrated bugnetting and a tarp with doors or big enough to make doors just as a comparison .

Your idea is interesting but you loose dry space for cooking eating dressing packing and anything else you want to do ..
It looks like a nice winter concept to reduce weight but then using a sock you get the same benefits and a big wintertarp can be light aswell and offers a lot more space that is quite a nice bonus in wet and wintertime ...

Nevertheless i bet you'll have fun fiddling around with it and figuring out what works best

Reminds me of my UberTarp design back in the day. Except I had planned a removable bottom so it could be used as a regular tarp. That was about the time we all started playing with winter tarp designs. I abandoned it due to the sheer complexity of the thing. A big tarp is much better for me.
