Tarp coverage length to Hammock length

As I'm working on my second tarp, I began wondering about how much ridge length coverage is enough. Which then led me to wondering what others had. Looking up past threads, I didn't find anything, so here's the thread.

Minimum of 10 foot length ... but I prefer my 10x12 with 12 on the ridgeline.

I make my tarps with about 1 foot (30 cm) of coverage beyond each end of the hammock / ridge line junction.

My tarps all seem to be 3-6" longer on each end than the hammock. Haven't had any water intrusion issues if the tarp ridgeline isn't too far above the hammock suspension.

I've found that about 8 or 9" longer on each end has worked well, for me. If set up in the right direction, even wind driven rain shouldn't be a problem. I've never gotten wet... at least, yet.

12 foot tarp over a 9 foot hammock is my standard 3 season, but I will go with a smaller tarp with a closer fitting length if I'm looking to make more miles.
A tarp for every occasion is the rule for me.
