    tarp ridgeline length, guyline length

I have Superfly Spinn UL 132"x126" and will hang the tarp over the ridgeline. I'm on the AT/east coast, though hope to get to Washington state where I've heard trees grow a tad larger in diameter.

What length do you use for a tarp ridgeline? Is 80ft too long?

    Tarp guyline length?

I had hoped to make whoopie slings but ran of time, so I was going to order from opie or Paul, then ran out of time to figure out what I needed. So, it'll be plain ol' knots on this trip.

I've been reading for the last week but haven't turned up the thread with all sources of knowledge, or maybe I missed it.

I leave in two days for the Okefenokee Swamp (GA) and Suwannee River (FL). Hope to hang in a Warbonnet Blackbird but am bringing my Tarptent Rainshadow in case I have to go to ground (ugh). I may pick up a Neo Air medium as backup. Even with my REI coupon, it's wildly expensive, but one day on the ground this weekend with the Boy Scouts on a regular Thermarest was insufferable (next night was in the Blackbird, no tarp, viewing the stars, ahh).

    TIA for your tips.

For my tarp ridgeline I use 30 FT. The tarp ridgeline is 10 so thats 10ft to tie out. Can imagine that my trees are going to be any further apart then that. For my tie outs I used 11ft and for my side pull outs I used six. enjoy the hike.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

An easy conversion in my head says:
    ~ 33 ft ridgeline
    ~ 13 ft guylines

Personally, I think 30' is plenty for a ridgeline and 6'-7' is more than enough for a guyline.

I've got 10' lines on all my tieouts and ridgeline. I think I've used the full length on maybe 2 of them once. I do like having that security though, knowing I have options.

    Thanks schwieb

I think I have the extra length in my guys because sometimes I like to put poles up at one side of the tarp to open it up. I sometimes take them out to trees at head height too for the same reason. It's not very often I do because the weather over here isn't too great, but it's nice to have the option if I want to open up one side.

On somebody's advice, 30' ridgline and 8' guys lines. I carry two 10' extensions with eyes on each end, that can be used for a variety of things.

The trees can be larger out West .... 80' may be over-kill but 50' is what I would take.
Or just some extra line. Always tough to come up short.
Guylines I use 3' to 6' depending on what tarpage I plan doing ... porch etc.
Line just ain't heavy enough to fret about in my world.

Aint that the truth! I always have a coil of some additional line in my pack too because you never know what you might need it for!
