Bedroom hanging tips

I'm really keen to get my hammock set up in my bedroom but I'm unsure about where/how I can fasten it. I don't really want to have a hammock stand taking up space in my room which is quite small (but long enough for my hammock).

Has anyone had any luck with somehow fastening to the walls maybe using steel brackets going through into a stud or anything else?

Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated!

One idea that works, but is the opposite of a hammock stand:

This works best corner-to-corner (aka kitty-corner/opposing corners).
Two 4x4 posts as tall as the wall (floor to ceiling) placed against the wall.
Two 2x4's (or One fence-post steel tube), attached to the top of the posts running along the ceiling.
Two or Four "L" brackets attaching the 4x4 posts to the wall.

Attach hammock to 4x4 posts.

You don't need support at the floor, because the fence-post (or 2x4's) is being compressed by you sitting in hammock. your only real concern is side-to-side, sway, and the "L" brackets should be ok for that. (But corner-to-corner is best.)

-Nothing on the floor to get in the way.
-hammock can be 'unhooked' from one post and hung in one corner.

I just use eyebolts in the ceiling rafters. Our current home sleepers are hung in this manner and have been used nightly since Sept 09. Not a single problem.

When I was 16 (that time is getting further and further away... and fast!) I came home from a summer missions trip in Costa Rica with a hammock I bought in the market. My father installed eye bolts in the ceiling rafters just like Cannibal mentioned - over my bed. No problems at all.

Of course, at 16 I weighed in at about 125lbs (when wet). Plus, where it was over my bed, had anything gone wrong (which never happened) - not the end of the world.

If your rafters are solid and you go through the center and not off-kilter, some beefy eye bolts should do just fine.

Also, I believe I saw pictures of Gargoyle (he'll likely pipe in soon) with brackets on the wall for his indoor hammock setup.

This is what I did. Works great for me. Know what and where your drilling. Find the stud-center and make sure you got solid structure.

I should also mention I live in a house that was built in the 1940s; nice and dense grain.

Like Gargoyle said, I just took two 3/8" X 3" eye bolts and found the CENTER of the studs in the walls and pre-drilled the holes and screwed 'em in!

If you want to take the hooks out later it's easy enough to patch the small holes left.

I clamped a U bolt near the top of a piece of oak 7' X 1.5" x 1.5" and screwed it into a single stud, right through the sheetrock. Since I built the underlying wall, I know that single stud is well anchored to the top and bottom plates. From the U bolt hangs the hammock.

I was able to get to both sides of both walls I am hanging from. I went as close to the 2" x 6" studs as I could, I then drilled holes, BUT, put a 1 x 4 behind each hole. Eye bolts & extra large washers are what I hang from. Been using this for over a year, about every 3rd day (the night before going to work. It's easier to get up than setting up outside.) & no signs of wear. My house was built in 1933.
