I also dislike pads. I thrash too much and hate carrying the darn things! I use Integral Designs Hot Socks that are insulated with Primaloft. They're not exactly light, at 5 oz, but they also make great camp shoes (for me). I've found that my legs don't really get cold down to nearly 20F, if they do, the pack will help me survive the night.

I picked up a pair from rei for $20 on sale. They're no longer available on the website but they may be in the clearance bin at some stores. They do have a shockcord drawstring at the top.

Downside: 50-fill-power duck down insulation (60/40 down/feather fill)

I have 2 JRB down hoods that I use as booties. They have draw strings. Very nice and warm ... and dual purpose, as I can use them as a hood too.

I've decided on a new cold weather sleeping system that I'm sure is going to work well.

    TPT Winter Ptarmigan
TPT Custom Winter Spec Burrow TQ.
    Western Mountaineering Flight Jacket
    Western Mountaineering Flight Pants
    Blackrock Beanie
    BPL PossumDown Gloves
Patagonia Cap3 top and Bottom Layer.
    Smart Wool thick Expedition Socks
    Goosefeet down socks.
Also have a Downworks Balaclava for those extra cold nights.

If this won't keep me warm, then I shouldn't be out there.
Not the guy to ask for Directions.

I didn't know there were trees in Antarctica...
If there's two ways to take my comments, assume it's the lighter and funnier of the two.

I've not seen the Downworks stuff before. I have a PL Balaclava from BPL that works pretty well. I tend to prefer the fuller coverage of a Balaclava to a hood when it's cold enough to need either. They also looks a darn sight cheaper than the Nunatak, although the Nunatak has the ability to convert to a hood with snaps.

Not really, ran out of time to do any testing before spring came.
