    Hi I'm Neil

    Hello everyone!

I used to go car camping and then sleep on a mat in my trunk, but I've since had to downsize my vehicle and this is no longer possible.

So I decided that getting a decent hammock setup could fill the gap for me and let me enjoy things again, atleast after the lockdown finishes.

I don't have too much money so hopefully I can spend big one time and not have to worry too much after that.

Welcome. I would also add, For yourself, please define the style and type of outdoor camping you will want to do. Having good boundries about what you do and do not want to do helps prevent costly decisions. i.e. the needs and expense of car camping vs. weekend backpacking vs. long trek backpacking are very different.

Car camping does not require the fancy Uber-ultra-light gear (think expense) that may be important for a multi-month on the trail trip may require.

It is possible to get a very set up including Hammock, Tarp and insulation for around $100 to $200. And if you are able to operate a hand saw, or pipe cutter and a drill you can have a portable hammock stand for ~$30. if price is the key factor for you.

I agree please watch Shug's videos, but also put some thought into what style(s) of camping you want to do.

My advice is to find a good hammock that suits your needs. Learn to hang it properly and find your sweet spot.....

    Throw a pad in it.
Use your sleeping bag as a top quilt.
Then get a good tarp and learn the tarp life.
    Enjoy the hammock quest.

One of the happiest days of my life is when I ponied up the cash for an underquilt and surrendered to the downy goodness!Ditto top quilt.

So far I've seen about 60 of your videos which makes it about 10%, it'll probably take me awhile to finish all of them. I think so far based on my needs I might have to go with 2 hammock setups. Thank you for all the info!

Keep your eye on the for sale section, and if you have facebook there are some decent sale sites on there. You can usually get some good equipment below retail price! Happy hanging.
