    I got a Ptarmigan

I purchased a barely-used Ptarmigan from the For Sale area a couple of weeks ago and am finally getting around to crowing about it.

Here is a picture of the UQ on the hammock during my backyard test. I was out two nights in a row with temps down to 30 degrees. Slept fine both nites. The first nite it took me some time to figure out how to adjust things so as to not have CBS (cold butt syndrome.) But really not difficult at all. I had to tighten the quilt on the ends a bit, and when the quilt still sagged a bit, I just pushed the quilt up above my shoulders a bit more and that seemed to do it. The next night it was all automatic. The width of the quilt is quite ample. I liked being able to move the quilt around to insulate different body parts if I roll over, or it I go fetal. Very nice.

I could probably go lower than 30 degrees. I'll test that in the fall. I thought that having only 3/4 length might be a problem, but I don't notice the pad beneath my feet except when it tries to slither out of the hammock. Not really a problem.

Thanks Stormcrow. Its a very nice product.

I love my ptarmigan...It is a great quilt and storm crow makes excellent gear. I took his Burrow and Winter Ptarmigan with a folded wool blanket underneath my feet and got down to 7 at the NJ hang. i am a very cold sleeper and I was pretty toasty (a few cold spots due to learning curve blame it on user error) so im sure you could get lower then 30's depending on your tq. ENJOY the new quilt I know I sure am.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

That looks great! What kind of suspension is that? Just at the corners or does it slide around on a full lenght suspension cord?

It uses a side channel suspension (slides along the side channels). I offer both styles but the overwhelming majority of people opt for the side channel suspension. I prefer it as well. I think it does a great job of helping the quilt hug or cradle the hammock.

    HappyC,
It has both, it is shipped standard with the shockcord running the length of the UQ on both sides with a channels so it can slide, but also has grosgrain loops to secure it so it restricts the moving/sliding of the UQ. Hope this helps!
