Some guys use treking poles to hold out the corners of the tarp when relaxing and want a view.
How would this work with the pole mod?
Seems to me it would be ideal as the pole would hold the centre of the raised side up even higher.
Thoughts??
Every time thi thread gets resurected, I tel myself I gotta do this to my MacCat Ultra Spinn tarp. I priced the carbon fiber pole from Fibraplex at about $50. I'm going to do it!
If I ever locate some poles that are light enough, I may try the double pole setup I was playing around with. I neat thing about this config is if the tarp is perpendicular to the wind direction, the tarp will lower on the windward side by itself.
The "Batwing" config.

Once I get a replacement dome tip from Quest Outfitters (lost the original in the grass as I didn't have the shock cord installed yet), I'll post pictures of my MacCat Deluxe with doors and pocket poles. I used the Easton Nanolite poles and the 145 degree center piece to help get the arch I wanted. I also bought the 90 degree center piece to try as well.

Hey PS. When You do this could you also include the weight of the actual pole you use. I'm curious because I want to weight my tensioners from JRB and see how 4 tensioners compare in weight vs a pole. I know the pockets them selves add nearly nothing in weight to the tarp or not enough for my non gram weenie counting self to really consider. What was a consideration for me was the weight of the actual pole.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
Hey BlueFin my old friend! Just saw your post. So sorry for the delay in response. I have the sil-nylon tarp. I love it. Hope all is well with you. Travel safe!
